Putaminal Hemorrhagic Stroke, Surgical Intervention and Rehabilitation Challenges in Pakistan: A Case Report and Review

چکیده
The United States has seen the relative rate of stroke death fall by 35.8% and the actual number of stroke deaths decline by 22.8% from 2000 to 2010, primarily due to reduced stroke incidence and lower case fatality rates [1]. Despite substantial progress in acute stroke care over the last few decades, stroke continues to be the leading cause of long-term disability in the United States [2]. The numbers are catastrophic in Southern Asia3 due to increased life expectancy, poor awareness of preventative measures, and an escalating burden of stroke. In 2001, WHO estimated that 86% of deaths related to stroke worldwide occurred in developing countries [3], with 350,000 new cases annually in Pakistan alone [4]. Stroke epidemiology in this region also differs in terms of a higher incidence at younger ages (occurring about 10 years earlier than in the West), a higher prevalence of hemorrhagic stroke, and higher age-specific prevalence rates of stroke in women [5].

Coarse Tremor as the Only Sign of Perinatal Hemorrhagic Stroke: A Case Report
Background: Tremor which is the most common abnormal movement in the neonatal period might be a benign condition or the result of pathologic events and is divided into two subtypes, namely fine tremor and coarse tremor. Fine tremor is usually benign and results from some metabolic disturbance, such as hypoglycemia. On the other hand, coarse tremor is an indicator of brain insult and should be r...

متن کاملImproved functional outcome in patients with hemorrhagic stroke in putamen and thalamus compared with those with stroke restricted to the putamen or thalamus.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE We analyzed the effect of late intensive inpatient rehabilitation on the functional outcome of patients with subcortical hemorrhagic stroke. METHODS Patients who were nonambulatory with hemorrhagic stroke in the internal capsule and putamen (n=55), the thalamus (n=24), or all 3 regions (n=15) underwent intensive inpatient rehabilitation. Patients with surgical intervent...

BACKGROUND Walking ability is important in stroke patients to maintain daily life. Nevertheless, its improvement is limited with conventional physical therapy in chronic stage. We report the case of a chronic stroke patient showing a remarkable improvement in gait function after a new neurorehabilitation protocol using transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) and neuromuscular electrical ...
